Cider – the magic of Normandy
Before we turn our attention to the Kir Normand, let’s say a few words about the main protagonist of this drink: cider. A sparkling drink made from the fermented juice of apples and deeply rooted in the traditional orchards of Normandy. Where juicy apples ripen on ancient trees and the sea air caresses the leaves, this authentic cider has its origins.
Kir Normand meets Kir Royal
Many people are familiar with the noble Kir Royal – a cocktail made from crème de cassis and champagne. But on our trip through Normandy, we got to know and love a local version of this classic: the Kir Normand. It combines the sparkling cider from Normandy with the deep red crème de fraise to create an aperitif that is both refreshing and festive.
Recipe: Kir Normand
Ingredients:
1 part crème de fraise
4 parts Normandy cider (chilled)
Preparation:
Pour the crème de fraise into a well-chilled wine glass (or flûte glass).
Carefully top up the glass with the chilled cider and stir gently to combine the two liquids.
Serve the Kir Normand immediately and enjoy!
Perfection down to the last detail
For the best flavour experience, we recommend chilling the cider and the glass well beforehand. A temperature of around 6-8°C is ideal. And the next time you’re travelling through Normandy, try this drink in one of the many charming restaurants. You will. Later, the drink will take you right back to the moment when you first tasted the Kir Normand – just like us!
